Take That Crowned Best Boyband Of The 90s And Noughties

British boybands have played a huge role in the music scene over the years, dominating charts with catchy hits, memorable choreography and loyal fanbases. From Take That’s polished pop to East 17’s edge and JLS’s melodic style, they shaped a defining era of pop music.

But in the ultimate battle of the boybands, which group from the 90s and 00s truly reigns supreme and which song can be crowned the best?

To find out, new online bingo brand Zingo Bingo analysed the biggest bands over the years, taking their three biggest singles and measuring them against metrics including Spotify plays, weeks spent in the UK Top 40, playlist reach, and fan ratings on RateYourMusic.

These scores were then combined to give each track an overall rating, and the results were averaged to decide the most successful boyband overall.

Taking the top spot for the biggest song is Take That’s Back for Good. Formed in 1990, the band became one of the UK’s most successful pop acts, and this powerful ballad is about heartbreak and longing for love. It has amassed over 379 million Spotify streams and spent four weeks at number one in the UK.

Take That also claims second place with Patience. The 2006 song cemented their comeback after nearly a decade away from the spotlight and marked the start of one of their biggest career runs.

Third place goes to 5ive with Keep On Movin’, a track that earned the group their first UK number one in 1999, two years after their debut.

When it comes to the overall boyband rankings, it’s no surprise that Take That’s impressive back catalogue earns them the top spot.

In second place are JLS, the X Factor-formed group who rose to fame in 2008 with their tight harmonies, cool style and tight choreography. They enjoyed hits including Beat Again and Everybody in Love before splitting in 2013 and later reuniting for tour dates.

Rounding out the top three are McFly. Formed in 2003, they brought a slightly different energy to the boyband scene. Much like Busted, they played their own instruments, creating pop with a rockier edge.
